Bullfighting book "Nursing Gate" Las Ventas 1931-2021 by Maximo Garcia Padros.
Synopsis of NURSING GATE (LAS VENTAS 1931-2021)
The author captures in this book the original idea of his father, Dr. Máximo García de la Torre. It was none other than to tell the story of the infirmary of the bullring of Las Ventas where he was for so many years. The illness that ended his life did not allow him to advance too much in his writing. His son, the author, more than 20 years ago, took up his father's dream, and the fruit of this work is the text that is now published. It is not a book on bullfighting surgery, with its scientific aspects, although it is inevitable that the author has made precise and concise mention of that and many of these. The text has a historical vocation and before introducing the reader to the infirmary, or even to the bullring, it points out the importance of the mutual aid charity association and parallel creations such as the Monte Pío de toreros or the sanatorium for toreros, even the role of Social Security and the current mutuals. When it came to tackling the chapter on the injured treated in the infirmary, he had to make a drastic decision. The history of all of them would have given rise to a tome, not because it was uninteresting, but because of the length of the content. There have been more than 14,000 medical acts. A selection was necessary. The reasonable thing was to tell what happened, in the noise and in the infirmary, with those injured during the Lidia, directly or indirectly. Even so, the number was close to 4,000. With very good judgment he chose to relate what happened to the very seriously injured, among them, the five deceased, and to prepare a documentary appendix in which all of them were included, of any prognosis, in the form of files. This is the daily routine of the infirmary at the Madrid bullring, to which the most significant counts have been added, even complemented with graphics.
